Câmara de Três Lagoas promove seminário sobre prevenção ao câncer de mama

On Thursday (8) the Câmara de Vereadores de Três Lagoas held a seminar on breast cancer prevention in its plenary hall, as part of the national Outubro Rosa campaign. The initiative was presented by councilwoman Sirlene dos Santos (PSDB) and aims to raise awareness among the municipality’s women.

The event featured Dr. Luiz Otávio Zucca, a mastologist, who discussed the importance of prevention, regular medical follow‑up, and early detection. He also presented recent local statistics on breast cancer incidence and answered audience questions.

Prevenção e informação

Dr. Zucca highlighted that breast cancer remains one of the most common diseases affecting women, and that early‑stage diagnosis improves treatment options and survival rates. He emphasized that women over 40 should undergo annual mammograms and that self‑examination complements preventive care.

The seminar also distributed pamphlets prepared by the municipal health department, and health agents were on site to guide participants on correct self‑exam techniques. The material reinforces the presentation’s messages and encourages women to seek professional evaluation when noticing any changes.

The meeting started at 18h30 and was broadcast live on the TV Câmara de Três Lagoas channel, with a stream on the council’s official website, allowing residents who could not attend in person to follow the discussion. The live coverage aimed to expand the reach of the educational content throughout the city.

Organizers expect the initiative to strengthen local debate on women’s health and reinforce the impact of campaigns like Outubro Rosa. The council plans similar health‑focused events in the coming months and will monitor participation to assess effectiveness.
